Tillage is the process of preparing of the soil for planting seeds. In the soil tilling process soil is managed by keeping it loose and makes it free from weeds to support the growth of crops. So we can say that the main purpose of tilling the soil is to prepare a suitable seedbed for next crops, destroy competitive weeds and improve the physical condition of the soil. Tillage is the traditional and the basic operation to break up the soil in the preparation of a suitable seedbed. To break and loosen the soil there are various types of tillage equipment are used. Tillage equipment can be divided into two categories as per their functions – primary and secondary. Equipment that are used to break and loosen the soil deeply to create a suitable seedbed can be considered as primary tillage equipment and it includes various kinds plough like mouldboard plough, disc ploughs, disc tiller ploughs, subsoil ploughs or chisels and rotavators or rotary tillers. Secondary tillage includes harrows, cultivators, pulverizers, weeders, and other special tools to use in surface tillage to preserve moisture and destroy weeds in the soil. Some of the common tollage equipment we are going to discuss here – Plough Ploughs is the most basic tillage equipment that is used since the starting of farming. In villages and small farms many farms use the old country plough that is pulled by oxen or cows. But if we talk about the modern equipment there are different types of modified advanced ploughs used in tilling process today. A disc plough is used to cut, turn and in some cases break furrow slices by means of separately mounted large steel discs. MB plough or mould-board plough is used mostly in heavy rain or canal irrigated areas where the weeds grow easily. The key objective of using this plough is to invert and pulverize the soil completely and dig-up the roots of all the weeds. Harrow A Harrow is used as a secondary tillage equipment to pulverises, smoothen and pack the soil in seed bed preparation and to control weeds. A Disc harrow performs the harrowing process by means of a set of rotating steel discs, each set mounted on a common shaft. It cuts the lumps, clods and roots in the soil. Discs are mounted on one, two or more axles or can be a set at of different angle to the line of motion. A Power Harrow is also a significant tillage equipment or implements majorly used to brake, turn, refine and levelling of soil all over the farming area to turn the soil into a perfect seedbed. A power harrow is able to break up even the harshest or solid ground, in one round for preparing a perfect land for plantation. Rotavator or Rotary Tiller A Rotavator is made with the assembled set of revolving blades or rotors joined to the engine to cut through the soil. It is used as a tractor implement in the modern farming practices.

My parents are planning to put up a farm from the land my dad's parents left them. Thanks for mentioning the basic agricultural equipment especially ploughs which nowadays are able to remove the weeds from the soil as well as make it finer and ready for planting. I hope we could find a reliable company to suppliers with specific tools by next year.
